If the keyboard is detached I'm typically gaming with a bluetooth headset and use the volume controls on the headset. When using the Combo I use the volume controls on they keyboard. There's been a recent Combo firmware update, too early to say if it's fixed this issue. When the Combo trackpad cursor disappears pressing Esc ( + ) will bring it back. Sometimes I just don't want the faff and on those very few days I use the Magic. I do also carry a cable extender that I know fits into the Combo cutout. This is the single biggest blunder on the Combo and why I sometimes use the Magic or the Smart. A minor convenience, but a welcome one.Ĭombo provides protection but also some USB-C cables won't fit in the cut-out. I use the Combo media keys and top row enough that I miss them a lot when using the Magic.ĭetaching the Combo and standing it to watch a movie or play a game is useful, it just gets the keyboard out of the way. Magic trackpad has a very loud distracting click. Magic has slightly better key feel, Combo has better more even backlighting. The keyboard and trackpad on both are on par. I use the combo on my lap without any major issue. I've never missed the extra USB port on the Magic If not, then the only functional solution is the Magic Keyboard, if you can afford it. If the intended location is flat and roomy enough, then either can work. So, the primary consideration should be where you intend to use this. This allows it to go where the Surface or Logitech Combo cannot - into small spaces or just balanced on your lap. The genius of the Magic Keyboard is the way it origami’s the tablet above the keyboard - cantilevering enough of the weight to the front to keep it from falling backwards. It doesn’t work well in cramped spaces (an airline tray table, for example) or on a lap. And it works well … if you are using it on a desk or table with plenty of space to stretch out the keyboard/tablet/kickstand combination. No extra weight is needed under the keyboard. This distributes the weight down between the stand and the bottom of the tablet. It puts the tablet in a case with a kickstand. The Logitech combo uses the Microsoft Surface design. But then you end up with a brick, which defeats the primary purpose of mobility. The obvious solution is to add mass under the portable keyboard to offset the tablet. How do you keep the top-heavy tablet from tumbling over? The challenge in attaching a keyboard to a tablet is that the tablet has it’s mass behind the screen - unlike a laptop that has the guts under the keyboard which can easily support and stabilize a light screen panel. The primary difference between the two isn’t the keyboard or ports - it’s physics. the volume buttons are hard to find on the combo touch because they are completely covered by the case and replaced with a + and.I have no idea if this is just an iPadOS bug or an issue with the trackpad itself. I've had to kill an app and start it up again to fix it. a few times on my GFs ipad air, the trackpad stopped scrolling/working properly. The main use case i will be using the iPad for is prototyping in swift playgrounds/details pro, occasionally playing no mans sky when its available, and watching videos in bed.Ī few annoyances I had with my GFs combo touch: can fold much further to use with apple pencil (this is not dealbreaker for me as I don't plan on getting an apple pencil right away, and probably won't be using it all that much).ĭoes anyone have any experience with both? Which do you prefer? Is the function row/media keys that useful on iPadOS?.I've been told the keyboard and trackpad are better.smaller footprint when standing (more usable on a plane/in the lap).I am really trying to weigh the pros and cons of each. My GF has the combo touch for her ipad air, so I have a bit of hands-on experience with it, but I have not used the magic keyboard in person. What is everyone's thoughts on the Logitech combo touch vs apples own magic keyboard? So, I just got an M2 iPad pro (my first ipad) and want to buy a keyboard case for it.
